Elites’ (De)legitimation Practices toward International Organizations

Abstract Research on legitimacy of international organizations (IOs) has often focused discursive self-legitimation by IOs. This article explores the role other (de)legitimizing actors. Distinguishing between elites different political and societal sectors, we use unique data from a survey 860 in Brazil, Germany, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, United States, global elite group, to perform first systematic analysis elites’ (de)legitimation practices toward We analyze behavioral as well that may boost or challenge citizens’ beliefs IOs, describe how repertoires vary across geographical locations.
